MAIN DESTINATIONS FOR SPANISH FRUIT AND VEGETABLE EXPORTS
The value of Spanish fruit and vegetable exports between January and October 2023 grew by 6% compared to the same period in 2022, totalling 13,470 million euros.
Of this amount, 82% was generated in the EU market and within the EU, with Germany, France and the Netherlands as the main destination markets.
Specifically, sales of fresh fruit and vegetables in Germany from January to October totalled 3,923 million euros, an 11% increase. Meanwhile, sales to France amounted to 2,237 million euros, 2% more and those to the Netherlands totalled 1,063 million euros, an increase of 6%.
Italy and Portugal are the fourth and fifth largest markets for the Spanish sector in the EU, and although with lower overall values, they have recorded positive performances, with growth of 5% in the case of Italy, up to 728 million euros, and 32% in the case of Portugal, reaching 617 million euros.
Outside the EU, the value of Spanish fruit and vegetable sales from January to October stood at 2,477 million euros, 2% less than in the same period in 2022, with the United Kingdom being the main destination, with 1,619 million euros, 3% less.
According to Fepex, these figures show that the EU continues to strengthen its position as the natural market for Spanish fruit and vegetable exports, in the face of difficulties in consolidating markets outside the EU, especially in countries outside Europe. For example, Canada, with positive results in other periods, has shown a decline of 29% to 39 million euros.
